What goes into a construction submittal
A submittal is documentation you send for review before it's built, most often product data, shop drawings, or samples confirming what will be installed matches the contract documents. Some submittals are scheduled deliverables instead, a 30%, 60%, or 90% design submission due on dates set by the contract, rather than something triggered by procurement. Either way, it's tracked the same way, on the same log, with the same routing.
What makes review fast: the right spec section referenced up front, the submittal type set correctly (shop drawings get a coordination review, certificates get a compliance check), and both dates that matter, when the review needs to come back to hold the schedule, and when the material actually needs to be on site.
The part people get wrong is routing. A submittal often needs a general contractor check for completeness before it goes to the design team, and if more than one discipline has to review it, architectural and structural, say, every one of them has to respond, and the strictest answer is the one that governs, not the first one back.
